Evaluate the impact of media enterprise skills in researching, developing ideas'

Journal entry 3

Over the course of this project, I have learnt to use many enterprise skills well and efficiently. The main skill I used over this period of time has been working independently, as I had to plan and research on my own, I also had to write my creative brief alone with no assistance, meaning I have to re read m. This was hard at first put over time I have found it a lot easier to work alone. A skill that is linked to working independently is to be self-motivated; being self motivated is very handy when getting through the bigger, harder parts of the project, as sometimes you just want to give up. Learning to be self-motivated will not only help in my other projects but will also help throughout life. Throughout my project using my peers has done me a lot of great things. Help from my class has helped me with my research mainly, as we could share and give ideas to eachother to make our work stand out more. Time management has also been a great skill, as it was important I had all my work done by the deadline, along with giving myself enough time to check over all my work and get my questionnaires filled out.

In todays lesson I made the finishing touches on my creative brief for Nike. In this lesson I have learnt how to write a very formal and professional creative brief. This is very helpful as I now know what to expect when I have to write one in the future.

Image result for Nike

Nike
Background / Overview:
Our company started on the 25th of January of 1964 as 'Blue Ribbon Sports,' but changed to the current day 'Nike' in 1971. As a company we try our hardest to lead the sports world in sporting goods, including team uniforms and our own products that are very popular in the sporting community. We want 'Nike' to spread to a wider foundation of people at all ages. This will make our sale numbers much bigger, and increase profits to a maximum. (https://en.wikipedia.org).
It is my priority to ensure that our younger generations are ready for working life, as being fit mentally an physically will help you in a working environment as you are more likely to tackle more challenging jobs, leading to potential promotions.

What is the Objective, what is the aim of the advert?
The objective of this advert is to get general people now as now in the UK one in five teenagers are obese, although this is a more acceptable thing now, it is not good for the people as it can cause health problems in the future and in some cases can be life threatening, including high cholesterol and in some cases cancer.

Who is the Target Audience, what do we know about them that can help in the advert?
The Target Audience for this advert is teenagers that are overweight and want to make a difference to their life; but also want to look good when taking action on this. I want the advert to inspire teenagers to be outside and get exercise to feel better physically and mentally.

What will be needed to make the advert
All that will be needed to make the advert is a camera, a basketball court, football pitch and access to a skateboard park.,

What is the Main Image of the Video to Express?
The Stylish Way to Get in Shape

Desired Brand Image
Our desired brand image can be nothing more than to appeal to its target audience, and also appeal to the older audiences we are not quite reaching yet. We would like the word 'Nike' to be associated with words like 'victory' and 'honour' and therefore have carried out many sponsorships with the top sportspersons in the sport industry, and therefore the logo can be seen in most sports played competitively. We also hope that our may environmental projects will show that we are an environmentally  friendly business.

Direct Competitors:
Nikes top two direct competitors for shoes consist of Adidas and New Balance
Adidas: Founded in the 1920's, Adidas is also one of the top shoe brands, and is considered as Nike's most similar opponent. This is also a coincidence as Nike and Adidas have a very similar target audience. Adidas is sold in 170 countries by authorised retailers. Although Adidas has these impressive statistics they are still number two as a sport good manufacturer, following Nike.
New Balance: Founded in 1906, New Balance are one of the longest running sports specialist, and have a very different way to come at business. New Balance focus' on the 'everyman and everywoman' scheme more so then Nike. New Balance has a very different audience to Nike and Adidas as most of New Balance's sales are toward the older demographic. Another reason New Balance are popular is because they specialise in shoe widths, so is a go too for people with abnormal feet widths.
Advertising Strategy
The main idea of this advert is to be TV based, however the advert will be published to YouTube and TV at the same time to ensure that people will see it in an intervening time. After a while if the video is a success we will swap over to print. Advertising in magazines, posters and adverts on the side of busses and taxi's. This ensures that you will be reminded of Nike at any place or time.

Questionnaire

Questionnaire written questions

Question 2) The answers from my questionnaires shows that most people do see viral videos as they are shared on every social media sites in the process. This shows that it is easy to find an audience if a popular video is found.

Question 5) This question stated that the second option (a medium shot) is the best one as this is a good aim to see the emotion, body and face. This makes it easier to relate to the people in the video

Journal Entry One: Enterprise Skills

13th of October 2016

Today in my media lesson I finished my first blog post for my media BTEC course. During m time writing this blog I had used some enterprise skills, including time management and using initiative to finish it. The reason I used these was because I had to do it all without the aid of a teacher, and also I had to manage my own time within the two hour.

Research Plans

Primary Research

Do By: 28/10/16
The main primary research I will do is a questionnaire, this will help me gain a non biased view on my ideas and will give me ideas on how to improve my ideas; meaning I will have a varied view on my product, seeing what is good and bad about it. I will make my questionnaire on Microsoft Word as this is very easy to use and will be easy to access if I need the document again.

Secondary Research

Do By 4/11/16
The secondary research I will use is via the internet as I see the internet as a very useful tool, The main way to take out research on this assessment is to look at viral videos and how quickly they expanded. This will give me an idea on what type of video expands the most. I will also look at the 'Trending Tab' on YouTube to see what types of video are popular at this point of time, helping me see what type of videos the YouTube community are interested in at this point of time. I will also research methods you can use to make it morel likely for your video to go viral as this can be very helpful in the planning of the video.

I will do this so I can use my initiative more during the process of the production and editing. This will make me a more independent worker.

Research into role of digital media services and viral videos

Which digital media services are most often used to distribution of viral videos.

The most used video sharing site is YouTube, this is because there are millions and millions of videos with all different genres covering millions on subjects. There is 500 hours of video being uploaded to the site every minute.

The second most used video sharing site is Facebook Video and usually generates about 8 million views a day, the great thing about this site is most people already have a Facebook, if not Facebook is a very easy website to set up and account and is very self explanatory.

On the mobile phone the top video sharing application is 'Vine', this is so popular because they are short videos but also very funny. This is good because they are very easy to watch and it doesn't take up lots of time.

Analysis of existing viral video features

Volvo Trucks advert: 'The Epic Split'

This is a very bold advert by Volvo trucks that people were talking about for quite a while, during the advert Van Damme, a famous actor known for his splits. The starting short Is a Medium shot, then zooms out to an extreme long shot and then turns into a tracking shot. This is followed by a message about them testing the electric steering, showing how good it is.

Old Spice

This advert is a advert that contains a touch of comedy, and links to the rest of the adverts, making you want to see them all. The advert starts with a long shot, zooming in, followed by a tracking shot. The narrative is very funny and is easy to watch

Evian Advert

The advert is a very funny, child friendly advert that is very serial plot as babies are professionally roller skating the mise en scene is a park with ramps and a mesh fence giving it a normal American park look. Although this advert is made with special effects it is very well done as it looks quite realistic. These baby adverts became so popular that there is an 'EvianBabies' YouTube channel that gets millions of views with over 200,000 subscribers bringing in extra money for evian themselves.

Summative Piece

 Conventions

-: Short
-: Funny
-: Easy to watch
Using these main conventions makes the video viral because they are entertaining and can be watched easily without having to think. Making the advert more interesting.

Blog Post 1: 'Aims & Context of Research'

Why am I undertaking this research?

I am doing this research to generate ideas for a new viral video, during this I will use primary and secondary data to help me throughout this assignment. The primary research I will undertake is a questionnaire/ survey asking questions about what videos people will be interested in, and whether if they like a video if they will share the video on their social media sites. The secondary data I will use is the use of the internet itself, the main thing I will use is by looking at the videos that are viral at that point of time. This will give me an idea of what people are interested in at this current time.

Who will be the target audience for the viral videos?

The target audience for general viral videos could be potentially anyone with access to the internet. The main cycle of the viral video is first of all being on the trending tab on YouTube, videos on this tab have had a lot of views in a short space of time. Another way viral videos can be seen is if someone likes the video and shares it to their social media pages, allowing people on their friends list to see the video on their news feed. The main demographic for my target audience will be 15- 25 year olds in the ABC1 class, middle class.

Who would be involved in this research?

My research methods will involve multiple people to stop a biased view. One of the main ways I will use other people is through a questionnaire; this ensures that your results will have mixed opinions and will show you what the public think. Another will use other people is to use secondary data though the internet, aiding my research.

What Research do I need to make to help me generate ideas for a new product?

One of my main ways of research to make a new product is questionaries' and my own personal views, I need to think of ideas, that can effect your everyday life in a good and appealing way. I also need to look into the application market to see what sort of apps are being downloaded the most and how these can be improved.

Where will the research take place and what sources do I have available to me?

Most of my research will take place in my personal time or in my media lessons. One of the most helpful resources for information is the internet, and this is where I will be getting secondary data, primary data and where I will be generating my questionnaires.

Context

One of the advantages of the situation I am in is I have access to a big group of people and many facilities that can aid me in my research. As I do not work yet I have a lot of spare time to carry on with my research and get it to a higher standard. The main limitations I have is I do not have any money to put into this project.
